Arsenal have started the 2026/27 season by lifting the Community Shield after producing a commanding 3-0 victory over Manchester City at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff.

Christos Tzolis was one of Arsenal's most influential attacking players, providing the creative spark for Havertz as the Gunners extended their advantage before the interval.
City entered the break needing a major response, but Arsenal's defensive organisation meant opportunities remained difficult to create.
Ødegaard Puts the Game Beyond City
Any hopes Manchester City had of mounting a comeback were effectively ended shortly after half-time.

Martinelli Omission Adds Another Talking Point
One of the biggest pre-match talking points was the absence of Gabriel Martinelli, who was not included in Arsenal's matchday squad.

Manchester City Left With Questions
For Manchester City and new manager Enzo Maresca, the afternoon could hardly have gone worse.
City were unable to respond to Arsenal's early pressure and struggled to match the intensity of the reigning Premier League champions. The defensive problems were particularly evident as Arsenal repeatedly found openings in dangerous areas.
The Community Shield is traditionally viewed as a curtain-raiser rather than a definitive measure of a team's season, but a 3-0 defeat will nevertheless give Maresca plenty to analyse before the Premier League campaign begins.
Arsenal Send Early Warning
Arsenal's victory will not decide the Premier League title, but the manner of the performance will certainly encourage Arteta and his players.
The Gunners combined an explosive start with disciplined defending, creative attacking play and effective game management. New arrivals such as Tzolis and Guimarães also received valuable competitive minutes, while established players including Ødegaard and Havertz played key roles.
After ending their long Premier League title wait last season, Arsenal have now added another trophy before their title defence has even begun.
The message from Cardiff was clear: Arsenal are ready to compete again.
