Bayern Munich have made Bundesliga history for the wrong reason after conceding the fastest goal ever recorded in the competition. Augsburg’s Robin Fellhauer struck just eight seconds into Saturday’s clash after Manuel Neuer made an early error, breaking the previous nine-second record.

Augsburg Shock Bayern After Just Eight Seconds

Bayern Munich were stunned almost immediately after kick-off when Augsburg took the lead through Robin Fellhauer.

Bayern played the ball back to Manuel Neuer from the opening kick-off, but the veteran goalkeeper was immediately pressured by Fellhauer.

Neuer attempted to lift the ball over the approaching Augsburg forward, but instead struck Fellhauer in the back.

The ball fell perfectly for Fellhauer, who ran through towards the unguarded goal and finished to give Augsburg a remarkable early advantage.

The goal was officially recorded at eight seconds by the Bundesliga and Opta, making it the fastest goal in Bundesliga history.

Fellhauer Breaks a 12-Year-Old Record

The previous Bundesliga record had stood at nine seconds.

Kevin Volland scored after nine seconds for Hoffenheim against Bayern in 2015, while Karim Bellarabi had also found the net after nine seconds for Bayer Leverkusen against Borussia Dortmund in 2014.

Fellhauer has now moved ahead of both players with his extraordinary finish against the German champions.

Neuer's Nightmare Start

The record goal will be particularly frustrating for Neuer because the situation developed from Bayern's own opening possession.

Rather than Augsburg producing a long-range strike or a perfectly executed attack, the hosts were gifted the opportunity after Bayern immediately played the ball back to their goalkeeper.

Neuer's attempted clearance then created the chance Fellhauer needed.

It was an extraordinary start to a match Bayern would have expected to control.

Bayern Face an Early Test

The early goal gave Augsburg a huge psychological boost while forcing Bayern to chase the game from the opening seconds.

Vincent Kompany's side had entered the match in strong form after winning three and drawing one of their opening four Bundesliga fixtures.

They had also scored seven goals against Union Berlin before the international break, making the early setback against Augsburg even more unexpected.

For Augsburg, meanwhile, the record-breaking goal provided another memorable moment against one of German football's biggest clubs.

Player Ratings

Robin Fellhauer — 9/10: Made Bundesliga history with an eight-second goal and punished Bayern's early mistake.

Manuel Neuer — 5.5/10: A costly error from the Bayern captain directly led to the record-breaking opener.

Augsburg defence — 8/10: Had an early advantage to protect and remained organised under Bayern pressure.

Bayern attack — 6.5/10: Created opportunities but faced an unexpectedly difficult start.

A Bundesliga Record Bayern Will Want to Forget

Bayern have been on the receiving end of some memorable early goals against Augsburg before, but Fellhauer's strike has now taken the record to another level.

The Bundesliga's fastest-ever goal arrived in extraordinary circumstances, with the entire sequence unfolding almost immediately after the referee started the match.

For Fellhauer, it is a moment that will remain in Bundesliga history.

For Neuer and Bayern, it is one they will certainly want to erase from memory.
