Mikel Arteta has challenged Arsenal to turn their disappointment into a positive response against Liverpool after suffering a shock Carabao Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Fleetwood Town.

The Gunners were eliminated in the fourth round on penalties following a 1-1 draw, with Viktor Gyökeres cancelling out Aaron Loupalo-Bi’s opener. Arsenal created several opportunities but failed to find a decisive second goal before losing the shootout.

Arteta Demands an Immediate Response

The Arsenal manager admitted that the defeat was painful but insisted his players must accept the result and quickly focus on their next challenge.

“We need to take it now on the chin,” Arteta said, acknowledging the disappointment felt by the team and supporters. He stressed that Arsenal must recover quickly and prepare for their Premier League trip to Anfield.

The defeat will raise questions about Arsenal’s finishing, particularly after they enjoyed spells of dominance without turning their chances into enough goals.

Arsenal Fans Deserve a Better Performance

Arteta also recognised the commitment of the travelling supporters who backed the team despite the disappointing cup result.

The Spaniard was encouraged by the fans’ reaction after the match and made clear that the squad wants to reward their loyalty against Liverpool.

“They are always with us. That’s unquestionable,” Arteta said. “We’ll try to make them very happy against Liverpool.”

Liverpool Clash Offers Chance to Recover

The trip to Anfield presents Arsenal with an immediate opportunity to shift attention away from their cup disappointment. However, Liverpool are expected to provide a stern test, meaning Arteta’s side will need greater attacking efficiency and defensive concentration.

Arsenal must also manage their squad carefully after injury concerns involving Declan Rice, Noni Madueke and Riccardo Calafiori were reported following the Fleetwood match.

For Arteta, the message is straightforward: Arsenal cannot change what happened against Fleetwood, but they can influence how they respond. A strong performance at Anfield would give the Gunners a chance to restore confidence and bring some much-needed joy to their supporters.
