Brazilian football has witnessed one of its most extraordinary disciplinary decisions after the country's Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) handed Internacional defender Victor Gabriel an unprecedented suspension following the challenge that left Cruzeiro forward Gabriel Pec with a fractured tibia.
Rather than imposing a standard match ban, the court ruled that Victor Gabriel will remain suspended until Pec is medically cleared to return to training, although the punishment cannot exceed 180 days.
