Lottie Woad Handed Huge Solheim Cup Debut as Europe Send Charley Hull Into Nelly Korda Showdown

Lottie Woad's Solheim Cup debut could hardly have been more demanding.

The 22-year-old Englishwoman will team up with Charley Hull to face world No. 1 Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz in the opening foursomes match of the 2026 Solheim Cup at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands.

The American pairing is unbeaten in foursomes across the last two editions of the competition, making Europe's decision to send Woad straight into the contest a major statement of confidence.

Woad Gets Immediate Test Against Korda

Woad is one of four European rookies at this year's Solheim Cup, but captain Anna Nordqvist has shown little hesitation in putting her into the spotlight.

She will make her debut alongside Hull, who is appearing at her eighth consecutive Solheim Cup.

The other European players sitting out the opening foursomes include Carlota Ciganda, Mimi Rhodes, Nastasia Nadaud and Julia Lopez Ramirez.

Europe Need a Fast Start

The opening session carries extra importance for Europe.

Team USA won the first session of the previous two Solheim Cups, including a 3-1 advantage in the opening session of their 2024 victory.

Europe are therefore looking for a much stronger start on home soil as they attempt to reclaim the trophy.

The Americans are the defending champions after their 15½-12½ victory in Virginia two years ago.

Europe, however, have not lost a Solheim Cup on European soil since 2015, while the last edition staged in Europe ended in a dramatic 14-14 draw.

That makes the opening match more than an attractive individual battle.

It could immediately establish the tone for the entire competition.

Nordqvist could have protected her rookie by leaving Woad out of the first session.
