TRIPLE INJURY BLOW FOR CHELSEA? João Pedro, Reece James and Moisés Caicedo Miss Training Ahead of Brentford Clash

Chelsea have been handed a major fitness concern ahead of Friday's Premier League trip to Brentford after João Pedro, Reece James and Moisés Caicedo were absent from the portion of Tuesday's training session open to the media.

The trio were not involved when cameras were given access to the opening 15 minutes of Xabi Alonso's session at Cobham, immediately raising questions about their availability for the meeting with Brentford.

However, there is an important caveat: their absence from the publicly observed section of training does not by itself confirm that any of the three has suffered a new injury.

🚨 João Pedro Among Those Missing

João Pedro's absence is particularly significant given his start to the campaign.

The Brazilian forward has scored three Premier League goals and registered three assists in five appearances, establishing himself as one of Chelsea's most productive attacking players.

He was also Chelsea's late hero against Hull City on Saturday, scoring the equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Losing him for Friday's trip would therefore create another selection headache for Alonso.

For now, though, there has been no official confirmation from Chelsea that João Pedro has picked up an injury.

Reece James Also Raises Questions

Chelsea captain Reece James was another notable absentee from the opening section of Tuesday's session.

James has played a prominent role for Alonso this season and has featured heavily in the Premier League.

Given the defender's previous fitness problems, his absence is naturally going to attract attention.

But the available training footage cannot establish whether James was being managed separately, rested, completing an individual programme or dealing with a fresh issue.

Chelsea will therefore be waiting for further information before making a definitive assessment.

Caicedo's Fitness Remains a Concern

The situation surrounding Moisés Caicedo is slightly different.

The Ecuador international has already been dealing with a calf problem and has struggled to build up his fitness at the beginning of the campaign.

Caicedo returned to the squad against Brighton but lasted only 14 minutes after coming off the bench before aggravating the problem.

He subsequently missed the games against Arsenal and Leeds.

Alonso had already warned that Chelsea would not take unnecessary risks with the midfielder ahead of the Brentford fixture.

“Not yet, we’ll see for Brentford,” Alonso said when discussing Caicedo's availability. “We’re not at a moment to take risks with him.”

His continued absence from the visible training session therefore provides another indication that Chelsea remain cautious with his recovery.

Chelsea Receive Two Positive Fitness Signs

There was some encouragement elsewhere at Cobham.

Summer arrivals Marco Palestra and Jordan Henderson were both involved in the training session observed by the media.

Neither player has made a competitive appearance for Chelsea since arriving during the summer, with injuries having delayed their starts to life at the club.

Their return to group training could give Alonso additional options as Chelsea prepare for a difficult away fixture.

What It Means for Brentford

Brentford, meanwhile, will be hoping to exploit any weaknesses in Chelsea's squad.

The potential absence of João Pedro would be particularly significant given his attacking contribution, while James and Caicedo offer experience and quality in key areas of Alonso's team.

Still, it would be premature to describe the trio as confirmed absentees.

Chelsea's next injury update and Alonso's pre-match press conference should provide a clearer picture of whether the three players are dealing with genuine injuries or were simply following different training programmes.

For now, the message from Cobham is one of concern rather than confirmation.
