Manchester United Hit With Fresh Injury Blow as Denmark Confirm Patrick Dorgu Withdrawal

Manchester United have been handed another injury concern during the international break after Patrick Dorgu was forced to withdraw from the Denmark squad.

Denmark head coach Brian Riemer confirmed that the Manchester United defender has been sent home after suffering an injury during Sunday's 2-0 Nations League victory over Wales.

Dorgu started the match but was unable to complete the first half, being replaced after around 30 minutes.

Riemer has now confirmed that the 21-year-old will play no further part in Denmark's current international window.

Riemer Confirms Dorgu Must Return Home

Dorgu's injury occurred during Denmark's victory over Wales, with the United player forced off after going down for treatment.

He subsequently left the pitch and headed towards the dressing room.

Speaking after the match, Riemer confirmed the situation was serious enough for Denmark to send the player back to Manchester.

"“He has suffered an injury and has to go home. We have to call up a replacement.”"

Riemer also confirmed that further examinations are required before the full extent of the problem can be established.

That means Manchester United will have to wait for more detailed medical assessments before knowing how long Dorgu could be unavailable.

Another Concern for Manchester United

The timing represents another unwanted setback for Michael Carrick, who has already had to deal with several fitness concerns during the international break.

Dorgu had become an important part of United's squad this season, making six appearances and registering two assists across competitions before the injury.

His versatility has also made him particularly useful.

The Dane has been used in attacking positions as well as at left-back, giving Carrick another option across the left side of the team.

Losing that flexibility could become particularly significant once the club's fixtures resume.

The Injury List Keeps Growing

Dorgu is the latest Manchester United player to encounter an injury problem during the international period.

Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have also been dealing with fitness issues, while other first-team players have had their availability affected by injuries.

The growing list means United will be hoping Dorgu's injury proves to be a short-term issue rather than another lengthy absence.

The club's medical team will now assess him after his return from Denmark.

Dorgu Had Started the Season Regularly

Before the setback, Dorgu had featured regularly for United.

His ability to play in multiple positions has allowed him to remain involved even when the tactical demands of individual matches have changed.

The defender had also been working towards establishing greater consistency in his preferred position.

His latest injury therefore comes at an inconvenient moment, particularly with a demanding run of fixtures approaching after the international break.

United are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur, Atlético Madrid and Leeds United in their upcoming matches, making squad availability an important issue for Carrick.

Denmark Also Lose Another Important Option

The injury is not only a problem for Manchester United.

Denmark are already dealing with a depleted squad, and Riemer revealed that several players who would normally be part of his 23-man squad are unavailable.

The coach said the situation had become unusually difficult, with injuries continuing to reduce his options.

Dorgu's withdrawal means Denmark will now need another player to fill the vacancy.

Riemer suggested that Anders Dreyer, Andreas Skov Olsen or a younger player could be considered as a replacement.

Manchester United Now Wait for the Scan

For United, the immediate priority is straightforward: determine exactly what has happened to Dorgu.

The initial confirmation from Denmark establishes that he has suffered an injury and will miss the remainder of the international window.

It does not, however, establish how many Manchester United matches he will miss.

Further examinations are expected to provide a clearer picture.

Until those results are available, United supporters will have to wait.

For Carrick, the hope will be that Dorgu's latest setback is only temporary — because another prolonged absence would add yet another problem to an already growing fitness list.
