Martinelli Turns to Thiago Silva Before First Brazil Call-Up Under Ancelotti

For Martinelli, the phone call confirming his first Brazil selection was already a career-defining moment. But before stepping into Carlo Ancelotti’s dressing room, the Fluminense midfielder had one obvious source of information sitting right beside him.

Thiago Silva.

Martinelli revealed that he spoke to the veteran defender after receiving his surprise call-up, with Silva able to offer an unusual advantage: he already knew what it was like to work with Ancelotti.

The 24-year-old was called into the Brazil squad as a replacement for Chelsea forward João Pedro, who withdrew through injury. What followed was more than simply an unexpected invitation to join the national team.

Martinelli suddenly had the opportunity to work under one of the most decorated coaches in modern football.

And Thiago Silva helped him prepare for it.

Martinelli Wanted to Know What Awaited Him

Receiving a first Brazil call-up can be overwhelming, particularly when the coach is someone with Ancelotti’s reputation.

Martinelli admitted that he knew the opportunity had to be embraced immediately.

Speaking to CBF TV, the midfielder explained that Silva, who previously worked with Ancelotti at AC Milan, spoke to him after the call-up and shared some information about the manager.

The conversation was not presented as a tactical masterclass or a secret formula for impressing the coach. Instead, Silva gave his younger Fluminense team-mate some insight into the experience of working with Ancelotti.

For Martinelli, that small advantage mattered.

He had gone from watching the Brazil squad from the outside to suddenly being part of Ancelotti’s plans. Having someone around who had already experienced the manager's methods gave him an opportunity to understand the environment before discovering it for himself.

A Dream Call-Up Arrived in Unexpected Circumstances

Martinelli's selection came because of an injury to João Pedro, meaning his route into the squad was not originally planned.

That makes the moment particularly significant.

The Fluminense midfielder had spent years developing at the club after coming through its youth system, winning the Carioca Championship, Copa Libertadores and Recopa Sudamericana during his time with the senior side.

He had also become increasingly familiar to supporters who wanted to see him given an opportunity with Brazil.

That opportunity eventually arrived, but through an opening created by another player's injury.

Rather than treating it simply as good fortune, Martinelli has made clear that he understands how difficult it is to reach the national team.

His message has been one of gratitude and urgency: enjoy the opportunity, learn as much as possible and make every training session count.

Thiago Silva's Experience Gives Martinelli a Unique Connection

Now Martinelli Has to Make the Opportunity His Own

Thiago Silva could explain Ancelotti. He could not play the first training session for Martinelli.

That part is now entirely up to the Fluminense midfielder.

The call-up gives Martinelli an opportunity to show that his performances at club level can translate to international football.

Ancelotti is also beginning to shape a new phase for Brazil following the 2026 World Cup, making opportunities for previously uncapped players particularly important.

Martinelli therefore arrives at an interesting moment.

He is not simply joining an established squad for experience. He is entering a Brazil setup where new players are being assessed and where performances could influence their place in the next generation of the national team.

His first task is straightforward: absorb everything.

And if Thiago Silva's advice has helped him understand Ancelotti before stepping onto the training pitch, Martinelli now has the chance to show the coach what he can offer.

From Fluminense to Brazil

Martinelli's story also underlines the importance of Fluminense's production line.

He developed through the club's system, established himself at senior level and eventually earned the attention of the Brazil coaching staff.

Now, after years of progression, he has reached the stage where a conversation with Thiago Silva can be followed by training alongside Brazil's best players.

The dream call-up has arrived.

The preparation has already begun.

And the next chapter will be decided by what Martinelli does with the opportunity Ancelotti has given him.
