Ferran Torres could hardly have imagined a better start to life at Paris Saint-Germain. The new signing came off the bench to score twice and rescue a 2–2 draw against Rennes in PSG’s opening Ligue 1 fixture.
The Spain international entered at half-time with PSG trailing 2–0, and within 45 minutes he had completely changed the game. His brace not only rescued a point for the reigning French champions but immediately justified Luis Enrique’s decision to bring him to Paris.
PSG stunned before the break
PSG struggled badly during the first half at Roazhon Park.
Rennes took the lead through Sebastian Szymański before Esteban Lepaul doubled the advantage, leaving Luis Enrique's side facing an unexpected opening-day defeat.
The PSG manager responded at the interval by replacing Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, bringing on Ferran Torres and Mika Godts.

Torres needed just 26 minutes to make his mark.
In the 71st minute, he beat the offside trap before finishing a pass from Fabián Ruiz to give PSG hope.
Eight minutes later, the combination struck again.
Ruiz delivered a cross and Torres attacked it perfectly, heading home to complete the comeback and make it 2–2.
PSG could not find a third goal, but Torres had already done enough to prevent a damaging defeat.

Luis Enrique was understandably delighted with the response from his substitutes.
Asked about Torres' contribution, the PSG manager jokingly responded:

Enrique praised not only Torres but the players who came on in a difficult match, highlighting how important squad depth could become during a demanding season.
The manager also stressed that PSG are signing players for the long term and said the club are very happy with Torres' start.
World Cup hero makes instant impact
The timing of Torres' arrival at PSG makes his debut even more remarkable.
The forward joined the French champions after leaving Barcelona and arrived in Paris shortly after scoring the winning goal for Spain in the 2026 World Cup final against Argentina.
He had not played competitively since that final, yet showed no signs of rust after entering the Rennes match.
His two goals also made him only the latest PSG player to score twice on his debut, matching a feat previously achieved by Zlatan Ibrahimović and Patrick Mboma, according to Spanish reports.
A major boost for Luis Enrique
The performance gives Enrique another attacking option as PSG attempt to defend their Ligue 1 title and compete for another Champions League triumph.
The manager had already described Torres as a player capable of operating across the front line, while praising his international quality and familiarity with the team's style.
Now, after just 45 minutes in a PSG shirt, Torres has given Enrique an immediate selection headache.
The competition for places is already fierce, and Enrique warned after the match that players will have to continue proving themselves rather than relying on past achievements.
For Torres, however, the message could hardly have been clearer.
