Chelsea 1–2 Hull City: Belloumi Double Turns Stamford Bridge Upside Down at Half-Time

Chelsea surrendered a promising start as Hull City produced a stunning first-half comeback to lead 2–1 at Stamford Bridge at the break.

The Blues looked in control after taking an early lead, but Hull responded with two goals from Mohamed Belloumi in a remarkable six-minute spell that completely changed the complexion of the game.

Rogers Gives Chelsea Early Advantage

Chelsea started brightly and were rewarded in the seventh minute.

Morgan Rogers finished a flowing attacking move involving Cole Palmer and João Pedro, sending a low effort beyond the Hull goalkeeper to put the hosts 1–0 ahead.

The early goal appeared to settle Chelsea, who enjoyed plenty of possession and looked capable of adding to their advantage.

Hull, however, refused to panic.

Belloumi Brings Hull Back

The visitors found their equaliser in the 28th minute.

Chelsea failed to deal convincingly with a loose ball inside their penalty area, allowing Mohamed Belloumi to react quickest and fire past Robert Sánchez.

At 1–1, Hull suddenly had belief.

And they did not have to wait long for another opportunity.

Belloumi Completes Stunning Turnaround

Just six minutes later, Belloumi struck again.

Hull worked the ball back into Chelsea's penalty area following a corner, and Belloumi's low attempt took a deflection before finding the net.

From trailing 1–0, Hull were suddenly 2–1 ahead.

Belloumi's quick-fire double stunned Stamford Bridge and gave Hull a lead that few would have expected after Chelsea's impressive opening.

Chelsea Need a Response

Chelsea have continued to see plenty of the ball and have threatened in attacking areas, but their defensive problems have allowed Hull to punish them.

Xabi Alonso will now have to find a solution during the interval.

Chelsea need greater control in their own penalty area, while their attacking players must become more clinical if they are to turn the match around.

Hull, meanwhile, have every reason to believe they can complete one of the biggest results of their campaign.
