Manchester City maintained their perfect start to the 2026/27 Premier League season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
The champions controlled much of the match but had to work hard against a resilient Coventry side before securing their third consecutive league victory.
Haaland Makes the Difference
The decisive moment arrived in the 26th minute, when Erling Haaland rose to head home an excellent cross from Antoine Semenyo.
The goal was Haaland's third of the Premier League season and his 300th club career goal, adding another milestone to an already remarkable scoring record.
The move also highlighted an impressive Manchester City debut for Enzo Fernández, who provided the pass that released Semenyo before the winger delivered the decisive cross.
Coventry Refuse to Fold
City created further opportunities but could not find a second goal.
Rayan Cherki came close when his effort struck the post, while Coventry goalkeeper Carl Rushworth produced important saves to keep the visitors in contention.
Coventry also threatened on occasions, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into action as Frank Lampard's side searched for an equaliser.
The visitors' determination ensured City could not relax despite dominating possession. Manchester City eventually finished the afternoon with all three points and another clean sheet.
City Make It Three From Three
The victory gives Manchester City nine points from their opening three Premier League matches, maintaining their 100 per cent record under manager Enzo Maresca.
It was not City's most convincing performance, but the ability to win a difficult match without conceding could prove just as valuable as a spectacular attacking display.
For Coventry, the defeat leaves them still searching for their first Premier League point after three matches.
