The Houston Rockets have secured one of the cornerstones of their young roster, agreeing to a five-year, $208 million extension with Amen Thompson.
Thompson enjoyed a major step forward during the 2025-26 season, recording career highs in points, assists and steals while establishing himself as one of Houston's most important two-way players.
The 23-year-old averaged 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.51 steals while starting all 79 games he played.
Houston clearly views Thompson as part of its long-term core alongside players such as Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun. The Rockets finished fifth in the Western Conference last season and have added further experience during the offseason.
The extension removes any immediate uncertainty surrounding Thompson's future and gives Houston another young star to build around.
Now the pressure shifts to Thompson to continue developing after receiving a major vote of confidence from the franchise.
