Jalen Brunson Gets Assist From Knicks Teammates During ‘SNL’ Season 52 Premiere

Jalen Brunson traded the basketball court for Studio 8H on Saturday night, but the New York Knicks captain still had plenty of familiar faces around him as he hosted the Saturday Night Live Season 52 premiere.

Brunson became the fifth NBA player to host the long-running NBC comedy show, joining Bill Russell, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and LeBron James. He entered the episode fresh from a remarkable 2026, in which he led the Knicks to their first NBA championship since 1973 and was named NBA Finals MVP.

The Knicks made sure their captain did not have to handle the opening monologue alone.

Knicks Starting Five Join Brunson on Stage

During the monologue, Brunson announced that he would take questions from the audience. The camera then revealed four of his Knicks teammates sitting together in the crowd: Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart.

The appearance quickly became a basketball-themed comedy routine, with the players asking Brunson questions and joking about moments from the Knicks' championship run.

Towns used the opportunity to poke fun at his own NBA Finals foul trouble, while Anunoby brought up a memorable Finals moment involving Brunson and himself. The exchanges allowed the Knicks to revisit their championship journey in a much lighter setting.

Eventually, the four teammates joined Brunson on stage, turning what began as a solo hosting assignment into something closer to a Knicks team meeting — just with considerably more comedy and considerably fewer defensive rotations.

A Historic Night for Brunson

Brunson's appearance was significant beyond the jokes.

The Knicks star became only the fifth NBA player to host Saturday Night Live, following Russell, Jordan, Barkley and James. He was also the first active NBA player to host the programme since James did so in 2007.

His appearance came at the end of a landmark year for the Knicks.

New York captured its first championship in 53 years in 2026, with Brunson earning Finals MVP honours after leading the franchise through its historic playoff run.

That made the SNL appearance another chapter in a remarkable year for the 30-year-old guard.

KATSEYE Provides the Musical Performance

Brunson was joined on the premiere by KATSEYE, who served as the musical guest for the opening episode of Season 52.

The combination gave the premiere a distinctly New York flavour, with the city's basketball champions taking centre stage alongside one of the biggest names in contemporary pop.

For Brunson, however, the biggest assist of the night came from his teammates.

After spending the past year orchestrating possessions, finding open teammates and leading the Knicks through their championship season, he had four familiar faces ready to help him deliver the jokes.
