Morgan Rogers Enters Chelsea History After Another Goal Against Hull

Morgan Rogers has made Chelsea history just four Premier League appearances into his Stamford Bridge career.

The £117 million summer signing scored again against Hull City on Saturday, extending his extraordinary start and joining a select group of Chelsea greats who have registered a goal or assist in each of their first four league appearances of a season.

The names alongside him are formidable: Didier Drogba, Cesc Fàbregas, Diego Costa and Eden Hazard.

Rogers' latest contribution came in Chelsea's entertaining 2-2 draw with Hull at Stamford Bridge, although the result prevented the Blues from turning his early breakthrough into another victory.

Rogers Strikes Again

Chelsea needed only seven minutes to break through.

João Pedro found Rogers, who drove a low finish into the bottom corner to give Xabi Alonso's side an early advantage.

It was becoming a familiar sight.

Rogers had already scored on his Chelsea Premier League debut against Fulham, assisted in the victory over Brighton and then scored against Arsenal.

His goal against Hull therefore completed the sequence: four consecutive Premier League appearances with a goal or assist.

Rogers' achievement becomes even more impressive when the players who previously managed it are considered.

Drogba produced four goals and four assists during the opening four league matches of Chelsea's 2010/11 campaign.

Fàbregas followed in 2014/15 with six assists, while Costa also recorded a goal contribution in each of those first four matches.

Costa repeated the feat at the beginning of the 2016/17 title-winning campaign, scoring four goals and providing an assist.

Hazard then joined the group in 2018/19 after registering two goals and two assists across his opening four league games.

Now Rogers has his name alongside them.

That is some company for a 24-year-old beginning his first season at Chelsea.

The £117m Pressure Is Already Fading

Rogers arrived from Aston Villa for a reported £117 million, a fee that immediately brought enormous expectations.

But rather than needing months to settle, he has looked comfortable from the beginning.

His Premier League debut against Fulham produced a goal in a 3-2 Chelsea victory.

He then contributed an assist against Brighton before scoring inside two minutes against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Against Hull, he needed just seven minutes.

That means Rogers has already scored against Fulham, Arsenal and Hull, while also providing an assist against Brighton.

The numbers tell only part of the story.

His movement, confidence and willingness to attack defenders have made him one of the most dangerous parts of Alonso's new-look Chelsea attack.

Hull Refuse to Let Chelsea Have It Their Way

Rogers' personal milestone was not enough to secure three points.

Hull responded brilliantly after falling behind.

Mohamed Belloumi scored twice before half-time to turn the game around, exposing Chelsea's continuing defensive problems.

João Pedro eventually restored parity in the second half, but Chelsea could not find a winner.

The draw also extended Hull's unbeaten Premier League start, with the newly promoted side continuing to exceed expectations.

For Chelsea, the result was another reminder that their attacking improvement has not yet been matched by defensive consistency.

But Rogers remains one of the clearest positives.

Rogers Is Already Writing His Own Chelsea Story

It is far too early to place Rogers alongside Chelsea legends in terms of overall career achievements.

But matching a statistical feat previously accomplished by Drogba, Fàbregas, Costa and Hazard after only four league appearances is an extraordinary beginning.

The more important question is what comes next.

Rogers has already shown that the £117m price tag has not overwhelmed him.

He has scored in three of his first four Premier League appearances and contributed directly to a goal in every one.

Chelsea may have dropped two points against Hull.

Morgan Rogers, however, continues to look like one of the biggest reasons for optimism at Stamford Bridge.
