While Barcelona are allowing the 18-year-old to leave, they have negotiated important protections into the agreement.
The deal includes a buy-back clause, giving the Catalan giants an opportunity to bring Fernández back in the future if he develops into the player they believe he can become.
Barcelona will also retain a 50 per cent sell-on clause, ensuring they could benefit significantly from any future transfer involving the youngster
A new chapter in Italy
Fernández leaves Barcelona after progressing through the club's youth system and emerging as one of their promising attacking prospects.
The teenager can operate in several attacking positions and will now have the opportunity to gain valuable senior experience in Italy.
For Venezia, the deal represents a major investment in a player whose development has been closely followed at one of Europe's most renowned academies.
Why Barcelona agreed to the move
With competition for places at Barcelona extremely high, regular first-team football would have been difficult to guarantee for Fernández at this stage of his career.
A move to Venezia gives him the chance to continue his development in senior football while Barcelona retain a potential route back.
It is therefore less of a definitive goodbye and more of a calculated move for all parties.
