Wrexham have agreed a club-record £8 million deal to sign Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, in another major statement of intent from the Championship club.
The 26-year-old is expected to undergo a medical before the transfer can be completed, meaning Patterson has not yet officially become a Wrexham player.
However, an agreement between the two clubs has reportedly been reached after negotiations over the summer, with the proposed £8m fee set to make Patterson the most expensive signing in Wrexham's history.
The move would represent a significant step for a Wrexham side determined to improve on last season's Championship campaign and push towards the Premier League.
For Sunderland, meanwhile, it would bring an end to the first-team chapter of one of the academy's most prominent recent graduates.

Why Sunderland Are Allowing the Move
Patterson's position at Sunderland changed following the arrival of Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs.
Roefs became the preferred option, leaving Patterson facing increased competition for regular first-team football.
He subsequently spent part of the 2025–26 season on loan at Millwall, where he continued to gain senior experience.
That situation made a permanent move increasingly logical.
