Backstage Update on Former WWE Champion Drew McIntyre’s WWE Return

Drew McIntyre could be on his way back to WWE television after an extended absence that began following WrestleMania 42. The former WWE Champion has now returned to the United States, but there is still no confirmed date for his on-screen comeback.

McIntyre Has Returned to the United States

McIntyre has been away from WWE programming since WrestleMania 42, where he lost to Jacob Fatu in a Street Fight. His absence was reportedly planned, with the Scottish star having several non-wrestling commitments, including film work.

According to a recent PWInsider Elite update, McIntyre has now returned to the United States after completing those commitments.

However, his return to the country does not necessarily mean he is immediately returning to WWE television. The report indicates that there have not yet been creative discussions about his comeback or which storyline he could enter.

Why Has Drew Been Away?

McIntyre's time away from WWE has largely been connected to his acting commitments.

The former WWE Champion has been involved with upcoming movie projects, including The Last Druid, while also working on the Highlander remake.

His absence therefore appears to have been more about his scheduled commitments than WWE removing him from its plans.

Earlier reports had suggested WWE was considering McIntyre for a return around SummerSlam, although those plans ultimately did not materialize.

WWE Still Has Plenty of Options

Once McIntyre is ready to return, WWE has several directions available.

The Scottish Warrior remains one of the company's most established stars and could immediately slot into a major storyline on either Raw or SmackDown.

His previous programs with stars such as Cody Rhodes, CM Punk and Jacob Fatu give WWE plenty of material to work with.

A return could also put McIntyre back into the world-title picture, particularly given his history as a former WWE Champion.
