Johnny Gargano has promised that his loss to CM Punk on WWE SmackDown is only the beginning after an emotional return to action in his hometown of Cleveland.
Gargano challenged Punk for the Undisputed WWE Championship in the September 4 episode of SmackDown. Despite a chaotic main event featuring interference from Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, GUNTHER and Finn Bálor, Punk ultimately retained his title.
Gargano Sends Powerful Message
A day after the defeat, Gargano addressed the WWE Universe on social media, reflecting on what the match meant to him.
The Cleveland native explained that competing against Punk in the arena where he first fell in love with professional wrestling was an emotional experience. He also admitted that he was not yet back to his best after spending months away from active competition.
Gargano's message was particularly notable because he described himself as a “work in progress” and made it clear that he intends to rebuild himself rather than allow the defeat to define his comeback.
