Former WWE and AEW star Malakai Black has reportedly held preliminary discussions with Major League Wrestling (MLW) following his WWE release, although no deal has been reached.

Black, who performed as Aleister Black during his WWE run, became a free agent on July 23 following his release from WWE earlier this year. According to recent reporting, he had preliminary contact with MLW a few weeks after leaving the company. The talks reportedly did not progress very far, but they also did not end negatively.

MLW Talks Stalled

The early discussions between Malakai Black and MLW reportedly never developed into a formal contract agreement.

While the conversations have currently stalled, the fact that they did not reportedly end badly means the possibility of future discussions remains open.

For now, however, Black remains a free agent and has not signed with MLW.

AEW Return Remains Uncertain

Black's future has also generated speculation about a potential return to AEW, where he previously competed under the Malakai Black name.

However, recent reports indicate that AEW sources have not heard anything suggesting that the promotion is currently preparing to bring him back.

That leaves Black's next major destination unclear.

Black Returning to the Independent Scene

While his long-term future remains unresolved, Black is already preparing to return to wrestling action.

PROGRESS Wrestling has announced that Black will compete during its Odyssey Tour from September 4-6, marking his first announced matches since leaving WWE.

The upcoming appearances will give fans their first opportunity to see what direction Black takes following his WWE departure.

A New Chapter for Malakai Black

Black's wrestling career has taken him through several major promotions.

He became a standout performer under the Aleister Black name in WWE before moving to AEW, where he established himself as Malakai Black and became part of the House of Black.

His return to WWE saw him once again compete as Aleister Black before his latest departure.

Now, with another free-agency period beginning, the former NXT Champion has several potential paths available.

The situation surrounding Malakai Black's future remains one to watch.

The preliminary MLW talks show that there was interest shortly after his WWE release, but no agreement was reached. At the same time, reports of a potential AEW return remain unconfirmed.

For now, Black appears focused on getting back into the ring and showing fans what comes next.

His upcoming PROGRESS appearances could be the beginning of a new chapter before he eventually decides where he wants to continue his career.

Malakai Black is officially a free agent, and while his next major contract remains uncertain, his return to the independent wrestling scene is already set to begin.
